Risky Business

So, up until now my blog has only consisted of EMH themed posts, though i do watch some 30 series online, i still haven't found the time to write about any others.
But one series that i have been watching has caught my eye, 5zer02, one that i am sure most people are aware of, at least within our own little ARG community.
A great series, most of the time, though i do believe that they are playing an equally dangerous game, though not quite the same as the EMH crew.
While EMH dabbles with their upload schedule to lure in and keep viewers, and 5zer02 (among many others) have been doing the same, 5zer02 have been using another tactic. being one of the heavy hitters among the series, they have the right to change the parameters of the mythos and have it taken as fact by their viewers.
But they have made a mistake, and not just one.
Firstly they went too far outside of the original slenderman mythos guide, wherein the slenderman is solitary, silent and impossible to evade. he comes for a single person, or a small group of people, no more than about 3-4 at a time, and he takes them silently. every hard core fan of the mythos, such as myself, knows this to be fact, from the very first posts from Victor Surge. so when we view the behemoth of a video that was "October" we see many faults.
the video draws in the views with its long run time, and the promise of important events. Xxak (i think thats how you spell it, im too lazy to check) returns, revived of whatever he had that was keeping him away, and seemingly unaware of what has happened to himself. while half the group reacts positively, the other half is sceptical.
after a minor confrontation, there is an odd scene where they are driving along a riverside road, overlooking the city.
they pull over for some reason, and the camera as an eplillectic fit as the pair wrestle the floor. then for some reason, the slenderman takes a city. he takes a city. a whole city.
slenderman, or what looks to be him, stands on the left, the size of a skyscraper, and montrously huge tentacles rise up and take the city, while we are left wondering what the fuck just happened. this is a major breach of the mythos guides, and while it is bold of someone of my own small standing to make such a claim, i feel that it is true. i have enjoyed this series, but the latest offerings have been under par, and sadly most series are suffering this lag in the uploads.
so after 5zer02 jumped the shark, or slendied the city, as it should shall fourth be known, they went on hiatus, which is always fun to watch [insert sarcastic tone here]
so after time to recharge, refresh and come back anew, we get a very short video of whats-his-name telling us that they are pretty much done making videos, and that he has had trouble with the police and that some weird shit is going down, and that they are done with the slenderman thing.
i am still not sure whether this is in-game, OOG, a paradigm shift or what, but it is damn confusing.
on the one hand, we have the possibility that the real life creators of the series are ending it here, for OOG reasons beyond our need to know. on the other hand, we have the possibility that they are shifting the entire story arc of the series from a simple vlog-gone-wrong to a we-were-acting-all-along-and-now-slenderman-is-here-for-real blog or a WWAAAANSIHFR, which isnt any easier to say or type.
both TJA and EMH have done this, and they were successful because they admitted to this in their early videos. but doing this on the 42nd video, after setting up almost too many plot points that have yet to be explained, this is simply sloppy.
either this was planned, albeit poorly, and this is part of what the group want to do, or they have tired of their original series, and are now taking a break while leaving room to continue in a new direction, should they choose.
as with my EMH rant, im not going to lose sleep over this, and im not just writing this for effect, barely anyone actually reads this blog anyway. but its something for me to do. im not trying to attack or slander the creators, merely trying to analyse the oddly scheduled uploads that seem hurried and half hearted. i wont stop watching the series, but im sure they will stop making it, a hard thing for anyone to do.
i once toyed with writing and making a series, but as i have explained in my videos, i am simply too ill-equipped to actually do it. i spent one bored night writing an indepth plot and working everything out. i thought that i managed to work in some decent themes and recurring elements, as well as a good deal of mystery, but when it came to ending the series, i was completely lost. there was no decent place to end it, and i couldnt think of a single way to do it tastefully and effectively. so with these series, like everymanHYBRID, that have spanned across years, the pressure is only growing for an ending that the fans will not want to see done wrong, if at all. i am still very disillusioned when i think of EMH ending, or any series to be honest. i am still holding out hope on the TJA sequel, which may have fully started, im not sure i havent checked in a while.
but anyway, thats my 2 pennies (British).
cheers, Jack
